</aAuctionBytes.com has already posted about this (”eBay Rescinds Invitations to Top Rated Seller Program“) so I’m just confirming here that yesterday an email was indeed sent out in error notifying some sellers that they qualify for eBay Top-rated seller (eTRS) status when they in fact do not.
A follow-up email was sent shortly thereafter stating the following:
Within the last 24 hours, you received an email from eBay that indicated you had qualified for Top-rated seller status. This notification would also have appeared in My Messages and was entitled “Congratulations you qualify as a Top-rated seller!”
Please disregard this notification as your seller performance status has not changed. The email was sent in error, and we apologize for any confusion it may have caused. The cause of the error has been identified and fixed. We have also removed the notifications from your My Messages.
To see your seller performance status, please click on the Last Evaluation tab in your Seller Dashboard. You can also see how you are tracking toward Top-rated seller status by viewing the Daily Evaluation tab in your Seller Dashboard.
If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Once again, please accept our apologies. Thank you for selling on eBay.
Plain and simple, although acknowledged and rectified in a timely manner, this was not a good user experience for sellers and one hopes that the sentence, “the cause of the error has been identified and fixed” is right on the money. I have a request into folks close to the matter asking for more information regarding the specific cause. But must admit that the second part of the statement – that the problem has been fixed – is the more important one moving forward.
Around the 20th of every month, eBay evaluates performance to see qualification for Top-rated status. As stated in the email above, sellers can see how they are tracking toward Top-rated seller status by checking out the Daily Evaluation tab in the seller dashboard.
