ChannelAdvisor's Same Store Sale (SSS) data for March is in and we now have a complete view of Q1.  March showed a tick down in SSS across all channels.  I'm still investigating the data to see what the key contributors to the deceleration were.  Some customers are mentioning unusually good Spring weather in March as a factor as consumers are away from their computers enjoying the weather.

  • Overall at ChannelAdvisor we saw SSS come down to 13% vs. Feb's 17%
  • eBay SSS was 3% vs. Feb's 5.4%
  • Amazon was 72% vs. Feb's 77%

The following chart illustrates the data since Jan 09:

Disclaimers

We are not a material volume of eBay or Amazon. Our customer size, category mix and data may vary wildly from what happens on those platforms and e-commerce overall.  We believe our software tends to a) skew to larger sellers and b) allow them to grow faster than the averages.  On Amazon, we skew heavily to the EGM (electronics and general merchandise) part of Amazon and not the media side of the business.

Seeking Alpha Disclosure: I am long google and Amazon. eBay is a minority investor in ChannelAdvisor.
